In Loving Memory |
|
The year was 1944, the location was Bryan, TX where a young WWII soldier fell in love and married his sweetheart. That union lasted 61 years because of the love and dedication they had for one another. You would always find them working on projects together, either around the house or in Dad’s workshop. Dad lost the best wife and work partner he could ever have, and he misses her terribly. She was also the best Mom any kid could ask for. Her dedication to God, family & friends still touches us today. Mom taught us kids to have faith in Christ as our Savior, work hard (even when we didn’t want to), laugh often, enjoy life and not be afraid to love others. Hopefully we have passed this on to our children as well as she did to us. Every spring would find her looking at flower catalogs to decide which flowers she wanted in her yard and her hard work showed because she had the prettiest yard in the neighborhood. But her favorite place to be was in her well-organized sewing room. Mom loved to sew and quilt, and she did this with a passion. Growing up, our family didn’t know what it was to have store bought clothes. Most kids now would think that was awful, but she always had us dressed in the latest styles. Born and raised on a farm in Michigan, along with nine siblings, she learned quilting at a young age from her Mother and Grandmother. She continued quilting her whole life. In her sewing room you would always find a quilt in the frame during the winter when she couldn’t be outside in her flowerbeds. She made quilts for all of us and we; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are so grateful to have her quilts today. Mom’s latest love was her 10001 Janome Embroidery machine that Dad bought for her. Wanting to put her love of flowers & quilting together, she made the beautiful quilt you see in the picture. We are so thankful she taught and instilled in us the love of handmade things and for the many beautiful handcrafted items she made and gave to us during her lifetime. |
